Police have confirmed the death of a man following an incident in Goole was accidental having previously arrested a teenager on suspicion of murder as part of the investigation.

Humberside Police officers were called to the scene in Hook Road after paramedics reported a man had been found with injuries to his head inside a property at around 7.45pm on Sunday, October 20. The 42-year-old man received hospital treatment for serious injuries but, despite the efforts of medical professionals, he sadly died the following day.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and, later, a 15-year-old boy was also arrested in connection with the incident. Both teenagers have now been released with no further action after a post-mortem examination on the man, along with the completion of multiple lines of enquiry, led detectives to conclude his death was accidental after a fall.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Jim Clough said: “A postmortem examination was conducted on Tuesday 22 October and concluded that the cause of death was a head injury and was consistent with an injury sustained from a fall.

“Following a thorough investigation, we can now confirm there was no third-party involvement in the man’s death, and his injuries have been found to be consistent with falling down the stairs in his home.

“His family have been made aware and continue to be supported by specially trained officers as they come to terms with the tragic accident. My thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.”
