Police have seized a huge machete 'deliberately hidden' in foliage. Now officers in Nantwich have urged anyone who spots weapons stuffed away in parkland to report it.

That message comes as the technique of squirreling a weapon away in such places is used by gangs who do it to then use them in the future. The 18-inch blade recently hidden was spotted off a woodland path in the Queens Drive area of the town.

A spokesperson for the town's policing team said: "On the back of an intelligence report from a member of the public, we were able to locate and seize this 'Latin-type' machete and sheath from the grassed area off Queens Drive. The blade measured 18 inches, and was deliberately hidden in the foliage off a woodland path. Luckily this was spotted by a member of the public, and not by children playing as the outcome could have been very different.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the weapon, but please call us on 101 if you identify any weapons hidden in parkland as this is a technique used by organised gangs to leave them hidden for future use."
