Police urge driver to come forward as crash leaves pensioner, 78, in critical condition
Detectives are urging a driver to come forward after a pensioner was left in a critical condition after being hit by a car in Cheshire. Police say the 78-year-old man was involved in a collision with a red Kia Ceed on Mill Street, near to Ableworld, in Congleton.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital. In a statement issued today (December 12), Cheshire Police says the pedestrian's condition remains critical but stable, following the incident at around 11.38am on Wednesday, November 20.
No arrests have been made and the Kia driver was uninjured in the incident. Enquiries are ongoing and detectives are keen to speak to the driver of a blue Toyota Hilux, which was seen in the area at the time.
Officers believe the Toyota driver could hold key information about the incident. Other witnesses, and anyone with relevant video footage from the scene, are also being urged to come forward.
Detective Constable Nicola Rimmer, of the Serious Collision investigation Unit at Cheshire Police, said: "The pedestrian in this case sustained potentially life-threatening injuries and we are committed to doing everything we can to establish exactly what took place. As part of our investigation we are keen to speak to the occupants of a blue Toyota Hilux which was driving on Mill Street at the time of the incident.
"The vehicle travelled from Mountbatten Way onto Mill Street and the occupants may be able to assist with our enquiries. I would urge the occupants of the car, or anyone else who witnessed the collision, to get in touch.
"The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage which may aid our enquiries." Information can be passed on to police online or by calling 101, quoting IML 1966813.
