Police urge swimmers to be careful

POLICE have warned about the dangers of swimming this summer during Drowning Prevention Week.

With the weather getting warmer, police have seen the number of people using outdoor swimming pools, leisure centres, and the River Thames increase.

They are now urging people to be careful around any body of water and to be clued up on what to do if they get into trouble.

Thames Valley Police released a statement stating: “Before you enter any body of water - think about your safety.

“Is there a lifeguard at the site? Where are the exit points? Do you know what to do if you get into trouble? Float to live. If you don't feel safe, do not swim.”

Drowning Prevention Week is organised by Royal Life Saving UK. The charity aims to equip everybody with the skills and knowledge to make the right decisions about water safety.
