Interim police Chief Rob Schroeder said in an update late Wednesday that officers were then deployed to the area to investigate reports of shots fired.

Schroeder said when officers arrived to the area of South First and East Broadway, shots rang out and two of the LMPD officers were wounded.

Both officers were transported to University Hospital for treatment.

Schroeder said one of the officers is in stable condition while the other was undergoing surgery during the most recent update, but was also in stable condition.
