Police have warned of potential disruption on the roads of Wrexham and Denbighshire this weekend. Some motorists could find themselves being delayed - but it’s all in aid of a good cause.

On Sunday, December 1, Llangollen’s Young Farmers (YFC) are staging a three-hour tractor run to Chirk and Wrexham city. As most of the 53 tractors will be illuminated with festive lights, the slow-moving convoy will make for an arresting sight.

North Wales Police (NWP) is predicting “some disruption” on the A539, A483, A5 and Wrexham city centre. It comes after traffic officers in Wrexham took exception to a vehicle festooned with festive lights – part of a TikTok craze to create “Christmas cars”. Its driver was ordered to remove them.

However the YFC convoy is different as its pre-arranged fundraiser which this year is collecting money for Ysbyty Maelor Hospital’s children’s ward. From 3pm tomorrow, tractors will be gathering at Llangollen Pavilion where a Santa’s grotto and Christmas letter post box will be on site. Glow sticks, balloons, and food and drink will also be on sale.

The tractors will set off from Llangollen at 5pm and return by 8pm. After driving along the A539, they will pass through villages including Penycae, Rhos and Bersham. The aim is to reach the Morrisons store on Ruthin Road, Wrexham, at around 7pm. Join the North Wales Live Whatsapp community now

The NWP Wrexham Town policing team said: “There will be a short break (here) and an opportunity to see some of these fantastic tractors and make a donation to their charity. They will then continue through the city along Mold Road and the city centre before heading out along Ruabon Road through Johnstown and Ruabon and on towards Chirk.

“As you can expect, there will likely be some disruption to travel as the convoy moves across Wrexham as they raise money for charity.” Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox

A JustGiving page for donations has been created for the tractor run - you can find it here. There’s more detail on the planned route on the tractor run's Facebook page.
