Police warning over 'abusive' and 'aggressive' beggar targeting elderly in their own homes

Reports of an "abusive" and "aggressive" beggar have been made to the police after a number of incidents in Sleaford. The force is aware of ongoing reports regarding an individual approaching people for money in the town.

Lincolnshire Police says it is concerned that elderly and vulnerable residents are being targeted, including in their own homes. It has been reported that the individual "can often become abusive and aggressive" when their requests are refused.

The force is asking anyone with any information about incidents or concerns about vulnerable individuals to contact Lincolnshire Police. An update was shared by Sleaford Police to its Facebook page on Thursday, January 30.

It stated: "We are aware of ongoing reports regarding an individual in Sleaford, approaching people for money. It has been reported they can often become abusive and aggressive when their requests are refused. We are particularly concerned about this individual targeting elderly and vulnerable residents, including approaching them at their home addresses.

"When people are seen to be begging, or approaching people directly for money, its appreciated that this can be an unpleasant situation, recognising the sensitivities and complexities surrounding their situations and the emotional impact this can have on people."

The post continued: "Our priority is to ensure these residents are fully supported and protected from any distressing or potentially harmful behaviour. We would ask that if you experience this in Sleaford, have any information about incidents, or concerns about vulnerable individuals in the community to contact us as soon as possible.
