Police Use Water Cannon Against Unruly Soccer Fans Outside Amsterdam Arena

Amsterdam police used water cannon to extinguish torches and disperse football fans amid disturbances outside the city’s Johan Cruijff Arena during the Champions League match between Ajax and Juventus on April 10.

This footage, filmed by Rypke Bakker, a sports journalist for the Dutch media site NU.nl, shows a glimpse of the commotion outside the stadium.

Amsterdam Police tweeted that a water cannon had been utilized to “prevent unsafe situations from arising…[and] to create a clear and safe situation for all supporters.” A police report said dozens of Italian supporters of Juventus were arrested, and that fireworks, pepper spray, a knife and flares were confiscated.
