Poland said it had deployed more than 12,000 security personnel to its border as a large group of migrants attempted to enter the country from Belarus on November 8.
This video released to Facebook by the Polish Police shows units at the border on Monday night, near Kuznica. According to the post’s caption, policemen repelled an attempt to break through the border by migrants on the Belarusian side.
Belarusian media outlet Nexta said the migrants were mostly Kurds from Iraq.
Police from Bialystok, Bydgoszcz, Gdansk, and Lodz were on the scene, according to the Polish police service.
The gathering at the border came amid tensions between Poland and Belarus over migration.
Poland has accused Belarus of a “deliberate escalation of tension” at the border. The EU said Belarus had made “attempts to destabilise the EU and its member states by facilitating irregular migration for political purposes.” Credit: Polska Policja via Storyful
