Have your say: Should England's 10pm pub curfew start earlier?

Criticism of England’s 10pm pubs and restaurants coronavirus curfew continues to mount.

On Sunday, the Daily Telegraph reported that England’s deputy chief medical officer Jonathan Van-Tam said there was little evidence the curfew works.

During a virtual meeting with Manchester MPs about the battle to bring in Tier 3 regulations there, Prof Van-Tam said he would prefer an earlier closing time of 6pm, the newspaper said.

Last week, it emerged the government’s own scientific advisers had warned that the 10pm curfew would have only a “marginal impact” on the spread of coronavirus.

There was criticism last month that Boris Johnson “never discussed” the curfew with his science advisers, one of whom described the plan as “fairly trivial” and said it would have a “very small impact on the epidemic”.
