'Pollution incident' on River Cam sees Environment Agency called

A pollution incident on the River Cam near Cambridge saw Environment Agency officers called on Friday (November 15). Officers used absorbent booms for what was reportedly an oil leak, according to one witness.

The pollution incident was reported at Baits Bite Lock, which is between Fen Ditton and Horningsea. The Conservators of the River Cam have also been made aware of the incident.

An Environment Agency spokesperson said: "We received reports of a pollution incident at Baits Bite Lock on Friday afternoon and officers attended the scene. We have deployed oil-absorbent booms and will continue to monitor the site.
