Popeyes fans queue overnight for chicken sandwiches at new Aberdeen drive-thru

Popeyes fans queued through the night at Aberdeen's newest drive-thru for the famous chicken sandwich that 'broke the internet.'

On Monday, January 13, Popeyes opened the doors to its second Granite City restaurant at Wellington Circle, with over 100 people queueing for the grand day.

The restaurant officially opened at 11am on Monday, January 13. Saurabh, Mouad and Paul were first to arrive on foot, while Bradley, Mitchell and Insuk were the first in the drive-thru line, all eager to be the very first to try the chicken sandwich.

The brand treated chicken fans to hundreds of free chicken sandwiches and Popeyes merchandise as well as keeping the crowds entertained with lively music.

Mouad arrived at midnight to secure his spot and said: "I saw the opening announcement on the news, and I’ve been queuing since 12am to be the first to try their chicken sandwich.

"What drew me to Popeyes is their offering of halal chicken, which is a huge plus since there are so few options available."

Bradley, who arrived at the drive-thru first at 6.30am, shared his excitement: "I love Popeyes. I pass by here on my way home from work and saw it being built.

"I asked my boss, ‘Is it silly to take a half day off to be the first in the queue?’ and they said, ‘You have to do it!!’"

Now the fifth Popeyes in Scotland, the Aberdeen drive-thru will serve the full Popeyes menu.

The lineup includes fan favourites like the Popeyes chicken sandwich, wings, tenders and signature chicken wraps.

Each piece of Popeyes famous chicken is marinated for 12 hours in a blend of Louisiana herbs and spices, then hand-breaded and battered for that world-famous ‘shatter crunch,’ and complemented by delicious sides like its southern biscuits and cajun gravy.

Popeyes will also soon be serving up its breakfast menu from 8am to 11am at its newest drive-thru.

Packed with British breakfast classics with a New Orleans twist, the menu features the big cajun roll, cajun hash browns and indulgent Nutella-topped buttermilk biscuits.

The new restaurant is located in Wellington Circle in Altens and will bring over 80 new jobs to the local area.
