Popocatepetl Volcano Spews Ash Cloud in Mexico

Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano erupted with multiple minor explosions early on July 31, shooting ash up to 1,000 meters in the air, as seen in a timelapse video from Webcams de Mexico.

Mexico’s National Center for Disaster Prevention reported that there had been “six minor explosions with low amounts of ash” and 10 hours, 52 minutes of “low-amplitude tremor” since July 30.

The center also reported 134 emissions of water vapor, gas, and low amounts of ash.

The agency issued a yellow phase 2 warning, urging people not to approach the volcano. Credit: Nicola Rustichelli via Storyful
