Poppy appeal tin stolen in Bearsden church smash and grab as intruder caught on CCTV

A police probe is underway after a man allegedly broke into a Bearsden church hall and stole a poppy appeal tin.

Officers were alerted to the incident at the New Kilpatrick Parish Church in the town at around 9.45pm on Tuesday, November 5. It is understood that money gathered for the poppy appeal, as well as craft cash, was taken during the alleged break-in and theft.

CCTV cameras at the religious centre captured a man wearing a blue jacket and grey hat at the scene. Worshippers are now calling for anyone who recognises the man to contact the police and assist with their enquiries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.45pm on Tuesday, 5 November, 2024, we received a report of a break-in to and theft from a premises on Kirk Place, Bearsden. Enquiries are ongoing.”
