One of Cambridge's most popular lidos - which was made to resemble swimming in the River Cam - is offering a budget-friendly way to enjoy the summer with the kids. A hotspot for local families for a century, entry is currently less than £5 per child.

Jesus Green Lido, on Chesterton Road, first opened in 1923 and welcomes thousands of swimmers and sunbathers each year. According to Better, Jesus Green Lido is one of the few surviving 1920s lidos in the UK and was purposefully made to be longer than it is wide so that it resembles the River Cam.

With wild swimming so popular on the river, its creators wanted to imitate the experience, with the lido offering an alternative for those who would prefer not to go into the river itself.

Jesus Green Lido is unheated so on warm sunny days, offering a perfect place to cool off. Wetsuits are recommended at water temperatures below 14 degrees when it's a little colder. The lido also has a newly built sauna for those who are wanting some heat - and there is also a sunbathing space.

The lido has been recently renovated. With most of the work undertaken by a team of volunteers from Friends of Jesus Green, the facilities have been spruced up while the pool itself has been given a fresh coat of paint.

The lido reopened to the public on Saturday, May 4, just in time for the first May bank holiday weekend. It will remain open all year long but the pool is open on a reduced schedule for autumn and winter. Visit the Cambridge City Council website for opening times here.

Entry to Jesus Green Lido costs only £3.50 for children and £6.20 for adults. Access to the pool and sauna costs £10.50 - with the sauna only for those aged over 16. To use the lockers on site, visitors have to buy a token from reception for 50p.
