A popular independent Cornish chain of delis is celebrating five years in business with the launch of a new online store in time for Christmas. Sabzi, which was set up by chef-owner Kate Attlee in 2019 in Truro, has been enjoying steady growth over the past few years. Kate opened three further delis in Falmouth, Padstow, and Nansledan outside Newquay, each of which is open year-round, seven days a week.

Now Sabzi is hoping to grow some more after launching an online store in time for the festive season. Kate said the move would enable customers who can’t make it into one of the four Sabzi stores, to shop a selection of products via its website, which can be shipped nationally.

Born and raised in Cornwall, with an Iranian father and British mother, Attlee’s Iranian heritage heavily influences the daily-changing menu at Sabzi and leads to humble, local ingredients being transformed into aromatic, fragrant, sun-soaked reminders of her father’s homeland.

Kate said: "It is important to me that Sabzi serves our community here in Cornwall, but is also welcoming to visitors. We are frequently asked if we are able to send our products as gifts, or to those who can’t pop into one of our delis easily, so we are absolutely delighted to be able to offer a selection of Sabzi’s own deli products for sale through our website.

"The products, which include our spice mixes, granola and biscotti, have been developed by me and my kitchen team, and produced in small batches, by hand, in our Falmouth kitchen. We can’t wait to help bring a little more Sabzi into people’s homes."

The online deli will include a range of Sabzi hampers featuring a selection of Sabzi-made spices and store cupboard treats. It coincides with an expanded retail and seating/dining space at Sabzi in Truro, that will enable more guests to eat inside, whatever the weather, and also offers scope for a larger range of lifestyle and edible products to be displayed.

Kate added: "My team and I have been discussing for some time, what we would like to be able to offer via an online shop, and we are excited to be launching this, alongside an extended bricks and mortar retail and dining space, in our expanded Truro deli.

“I am excited that we will now have the opportunity for our products to reach a broader audience and a chance for Sabzi to reach more kitchens."
