A much-loved Edinburgh restaurant has closed its doors after only six months of trading.

ASKR, a BBQ pit restaurant located in Leith, opened in mid-march and served up dishes created by renowned chef Dan Ashmore.

Working as Food Director for the Dean Banks group of restaurants, Dan has stepped away from his role as executive chef, resulting in the closure of ASKR. He says he is now "moving on to his next adventure".

It's understood the doors officially closed in September.

Posting a statement on social media, Dan wrote: "All good things must come to an end.

"After an incredible 3ish years with Dean Banks, the time has come for me to move on to my next adventure. We've cooked for some incredible guests and in some wonderful places together, opened 6 restaurants in 3 years and achieved 9 rosettes and 4 of those restaurants a space in the Michelin guide, as well as many other awards.

"I look forward to seeing the group continue to grow and will be a keen supporter of them from afar.

"My proudest moment over these past few years has been to watch the young chefs in the group grow to be leaders in their respective kitchens and have the autonomy to make decisions and create wonderful dishes.

"I'm taking a few weeks off before starting my next chapter that I'm very excited to begin, stay tuned and I'll keep you posted."

Dan later confirmed he will be joining the SCHLOSS Roxburghe hotel as Executive Chef in November as his next career move.

Following a google search, ASKR is advertised as 'permanently closed.

Dean Banks wrote online: "It was a pleasure to support @dan_ashmore as he opened his first solo venture, ASKR, in Leith.

"In the current climate, it is incredibly difficult for independent restaurants to survive never mind thrive, with ASKR sadly becoming one of the latest casualties of our current government. We wish Dan every success in the future with his next role."
