Popular Middlesbrough bar 'with untapped potential' hits property market for £90k
An independent Middlesbrough venue has hit the market for £90,000.
Hit The Bar opened its doors in 2016 after the old Bridge Inn was given a stylish makeover. Since then it has attracted many Boro fans and became one of the town’s favourite matchday boozers.
The Bridge Street East venue, which dates back to 1858, has gone on the market - including its trendy outdoor shipping containers. Agent agent Parker Barras says the bar, close to the town's train station and Middlesbrough College, has "untapped potential" as the area continues to grow with Stack, Bloom, The Riverside and its prominent position outside the newly renovated train station all promoting footfall.
The property listing states: “A multi-use Independent venue with a unique and rare offering situated in The Historic Quarter of Middlesbrough, an area of redevelopment. The sale includes a premises licence which is completely incident free and covers the main bar plus our two shipping containers which are also fully licensed, along with a pavement licence which has doubled in size since 2023.
“The outdoor area has recently had a 25 metre branded fence put in along with an extra 36 brand new six seater picnic benches. The two 20ft shipping containers have been fully converted and renovated to match the main bar, viewing is highly recommended.”
It adds: “£15k was invested in 2021 to install utilities under the street from the main building to the shipping containers with the potential to power future growth in mind. Featured in The Telegraph, ITV 1, NARC Magazine, Teesside Live and more recently on BBC 1, BBC Tees & Hits Radio.”
“High profile gigs” such as The Lathums, The Sherlocks and Jamie Webster were held at the venue in the last year and Hit the Bar “were the only venue in Teesside” to be given permission for an outdoor big screen event for the Euro 2024 Fan Zone.
Hit the Bar is described as “primarily an event based venue only opening for Middlesbrough FC Home Games, private hires and gigs”. The listing adds that the venue is currently in long term lease with an option to renew at £13,000 + VAT per annum. However, due to the bar's location in The Historic Quarter there are no business rates payable at the property.
The business, which has a five star hygiene rating and eight years of history and “excellent” reputation, has a 4.5 star rating on Google Listing, 5k Facebook page followers, 1k twitter followers and 3.5k followers on Instagram.
