Popular Midlands family-run restaurant announces closure as owner says 'it has become impossible'
A family-favourite restaurant in Willenhall will close for good next month as owners say 'it has become impossible for us to keep the business going'. Ye Olde Toll House is a well-known name in the community, run by husband and wife team Trevor and Natalie Dunn.
The restaurant is based in a 19th century timber building that was once the market town's toll house, where drivers would stop to pay their toll to use the road from Walsall to Wolverhampton. Its locally-sourced menu of British classics, Sunday lunches and afternoon teas has attracted a loyal customer base over the years, but owners said 'it's time to say our goodbyes'.
A post shared on the restaurant's Facebook page on Wednesday, January 8 reads: "I can not believe after 14 years I am writing this. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we need to inform you of a significant transition that affects Ye Olde Toll House restaurant effective from February 24, 2025 we will sadly be closing our doors."

"It has been a pleasure serving our dishes to our customers, who have became friends and family over the years but it's time to say our goodbyes."
Owner Trevor said the couple were grateful for diners' support over the years and assured 'this decision was not taken lightly', citing 'multiple factors' as contributing to their decision.
The post went on: "Due to multiple factors, it has become impossible for us to keep the business going. We treasure the shared experiences with you and appreciate your patronage greatly.
"These are sad times and we are thankful for your patience and understanding. We encourage you to visit us in these last weeks, we urge anyone with gift vouchers to please get them used as soon as possible.
"Once again, thank you for contributing to the memories we've made at Ye Olde Toll House, It has been an honour serving you. We don't know what the future holds for us but I do know that my wife, team and myself have done nothing but work extremely hard to make things work."
The post was met with hundreds of comments from disappointed regulars. Lucy Onions said: "This is so incredibly sad! As a family, we've shared many marvellous memories in this building over the years. Sorry to hear you're having to shut down. It's a building steeped in history, and I do hope it’s listed so no one can destroy an integral part of WIllenhall."
Helen Cox commented: "I have to say I've found this quite emotional. I can't remember a time when I haven't gone to the Toll house for a meal. It's been a go to place for special occasion meals or for just exceptional food and great service ... This must have been a very difficult decision to make. So thank you for all the wonderful evenings of good food, great service and making special memories."
And Stephen Asprey said: "To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. Myself and my family have had terrific food and great evenings here and will greatly miss you both and your wonderful staff. All what's left now is the local chippy."
