A NORTH Yorkshire pub has confirmed that it may soon re-open after the venue won third place in the Top 50 Gastropubs.

The Star Inn pub at Harome, near Helmsley, which was 'reduced to ashes' by a fire back in November of last year, is currently underway with construction work to rebuild the venue.

Speaking briefly to The Northern Echo a spokesperson for the much-loved put said that “building works are starting” but they don’t have a completion date.

They continued: “We just won an award yesterday, third top Gastropub and that’s very exciting that we won that.”

The pub is set to reveal more details to The Northern Echo in coming days.

On a social media post, the pub celebrated their third-place-victory saying it had “been an interesting year to say the least.”

The full statement reads: “We’ve just been awarded 3rd place in the Top 50 Gastropubs in the UK!

“Well done Team Harome, it’s been an interesting year to say the least, imagine if we’d been open for 12 months. 25 years in the Top 5.

“Thank you to all, each and every one of you for your hard work in these testing times and to all the guests that have visited this year and the many before. Cheers all!”

The pub was severely damaged in the fire, which started after 10pm on November 24 last year.

At its peak, nine fire engines attended the blaze after the thatched roof went up in flames.

At the time of the disaster, Owners of the pub released a video of the fire on social media, tweeting: “It’s been a long night so far…I’m afraid we won’t be open for a while as we are reduced to ashes with The Star on fire and still burning.”

A few days later it was confirmed that police believed that the devastating fire was started deliberately.

North Yorkshire officers were appealing for witnesses and information after the fire tore through the thatched roof of the 14th century inn.

According to the police, the man voluntarily attended a local police station and was interviewed under caution, he was reportedly in the area on the night of the fire.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said at the time: “The investigation is continuing, police are urging anyone with information about this incident to contact them.
