A much-loved pub could be set to reopen five years after redevelopment in Camden forced it to close. The owners of the Holborn Whippet have teased on social media that a '2.0 version' is in the works, with plans to welcome customers as early as April 2025.

They went on to say the High Holborn venue will be four times larger than its first location within the historic Sicilian Avenue shopping arcade. They'll also have 29 beer lines and five casks to ensure beer is kept 'super fresh'.

The original Holborn Whippet traded for over a decade before shutting in December 2020. It's signage was later removed the following May.

It's closure was the result of a £245 million sale of the Holborn Links Estate, in which Sicilian Avenue sits, by billionaire Teddy Lagi that same year. Tenants in the various commercial units were told to surrender their leases following a period of negotiation, with the Holborn Whippet following suit.

Real estate investors Tristan now plan to create 17,000 sq. ft. of retail space, as well as end of journey facilities for commuters and office workers. Until then, Sicilian Avenue remains open to pedestrians but commercial trading has ceased, with units lying empty for several years.

The reopening of the Holborn Whippet will be the latest addition to the Bloomsbury Leisure Group. They own various pubs across London, including The Euston Tap and the Pelt Trader.
