Expected high winds and heavy rain bought to Surrey by Storm Bert has lead to a popular Surrey garden attraction closing for the weekend.

Painshill Gardens, near Cobham, is a beautifully landscaped 18th century garden that is normally popular with visitors but will be closed to the public on Saturday and Sunday (November 23/24) due to the expected adverse weather.

It was announced on the attractions Facebook page on Friday morning (November 22) that the gardens, which are full of dramatic follies, calming waters and stunning views will be closed this weekend.

A statement read: "Due to the high winds forecast for this weekend, Painshill will be CLOSED on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November 2024.

"Unfortunately, closures such as this have a huge impact on our small independent charity and therefore, we hope to re-open on Monday 25 November but please do check here before travelling to Painshill. Thank you for your understanding and support."

The gardens remain open on Friday with last entry being at 3pm.

The Painshill landscape is highly regarded across Britain as one of the finest examples of the British landscape movement, which has been credited by architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner, as "Britain’s’ greatest contribution to the visual arts".

Painshill is an award-winning 18th century landscape garden which provides visitors with a gorgeous visual experience as you stroll through features such as a crystal grotto, a 14-acre lake, ruined abbeys and much more.
