Port in East Philippines Battered as Typhoon Kammuri Arrives

The Philippine province of Samar was hit by Typhoon Kammuri – locally dubbed Tisoy – on Monday, December 2, bringing with it heavy rainfall and severe winds.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the storm carried maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h near the center, with gusts of up to 190 km/h.

Rommel Aquino III, a resident of Catbalogan, the provincial capital of Samar, captured this footage of the city’s port being hit by the typhoon.

As of December 2, the Philippines News Agency reported that across a number of provinces, local government units had recommended the “suspension” of school services and work in government offices owing to the conditions.
