Portland “anti-Muslim” stabbings

Two men have been fatally stabbed in the US while trying to stop another man from harassing two young Muslim women. The incident happened on board a commuter train in Portland Oregon. A third passenger was wounded before the attacker was arrested. Witnesses said the aggressor had been shouting ethnic and religious insults at the two women. Pete Simpson from the Portland Police department said explained “Officers at the platform went down onto the train. They found one male victim suffering from traumatic injuries. They attempted life-saving measures there on the train but they were unsuccessful. That victim died here at the scene. Two additional stabbing victims were located and immediately transported by medical personnel. One of those victims, when they arrived at the hospital, also passed away.” The women left the train before officers arrived. The mother of one of them, told local media that her 16-year-old daughter who is black, had boarded the train with a Muslim friend, who was also a teenager and who had been wearing a hijab. The suspect has been named as 35-year-old -Jeremy Joseph Christian. One report said his Facebook page revealed he had some racist and extremist views. The attack unfolded hours before the start of Ramadan, Islam’s holy month, when most of the world’s 16 billion Muslims observe a daily religious fast.
