The Potteries Centre has apologised for the 'disruption' after 150 shoppers and workers were forced to evacuate. The alarm was raised at around 4pm this afternoon (February 5) with police on the scene in Hanley.

Photos show shoppers have gathered outside the centre but officers have told them to move on. According to eye-witnesses, some were in tears.

A Potteries Centre spokesman said: “We can confirm that The Potteries Centre has been evacuated due to a police incident. The police are investigating and we will update you as soon as we have further information. We’re sorry for any disruption caused and hope that we’ll be back to business as usual very soon.”
