Power cut warning for 12 major cities in UK ahead of snow on Wednesday
12 major cities in the UK have been added to the power cut alert for Wednesday - as the final day of a three-day UK snow blast hits. Aberdeen, Belfast, Londonderry, Newcastle, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and Lincoln are all at risk.
"Some short term loss of power and other services is likely," the Met Office warned. Snow showers will develop during Tuesday evening and continue overnight into Wednesday morning, initially in the north of the area before spreading south later in the night.
The showers may heavy at times and accompanied by lightning. Some lying snow is likely with 2-3 cm in places and a risk of 10 cm or more over higher ground. Ice will readily form on untreated surfaces. The Met Office adds: "Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area."

The Met Office expects another cold day on Wednesday (November 20) with forecasters and meteorologists issuing a yellow alert until midday. The Met Office outlook from November 24 onwards, into December has also been issued today.
It explains: "An unsettled start, with a spell of very strong winds and some rain or showers for all parts. It will be mild for most parts, especially towards the southeast, although the strong winds will make it feel rather cold. The start of next week looks like turning colder for all parts, with a return of wintry showers for a time, especially in the north.
"Conditions then look like settling down as high pressure builds across the country. Although the high may drift off to the east later next week, mainly dry and settled conditions seem likely to persist, especially towards the south and east where fog may become an issue. Temperatures trending back towards average, but overnight frosts are likely and rather cold days where fog persists."
