The actress plays Tasha in the slowly emerging Power TV universe, which will launch the first of a number of planned Power spin-offs in just a few days' time.
Tasha will face trial for the murder of Ghost (Omari Hardwick), who was actually murdered by his son Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr) in the main show's finale.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Naturi described Blige's Monet as "a really good character" – while also revealing she and Tasha may not get along.
"I think having Mary J Blige step in to this role of Monet is so exciting because it's adding another strong female character to our story base, and she's awesome – and so humble and ready to work, her and Method Man – but [it's exciting] for women out there who see a reflection of themselves in Monet's character and Tasha," she said.
"You know, it's really beautiful because I think we often don't get to see that as much, and I think the way that Monet is written, people really enjoy, she's a really good character and Mary J is iconic – so it's an honour to have this beautiful iconic female come into power and literally just kill it."
Of her character Tasha's relationship with Monet, she added: "We may not see each other at first, because our worlds are different.
"However, our paths may cross. And when they do. We will not be buddy buddy, not at first."
During the chat, Naturi also addressed theories Ghost faked his own death.
Power aired on Starz in the US, and is available on Netflix in the UK. Power Book II: Ghost premieres on Starz in the US on Sunday, September 6, and will air on Starzplay, available through Amazon Prime Video, in the UK.
