PowerPoint for Tablet review

PowerPoint for Tablet enables you to create and edit presentations almost as easily as on your PC, bringing together in a beautiful interface all the slide customization and enhancement options you need. To use all of its features, however, you have to buy an Office 365 subscription.

Pros

Excellent design: By skillfully emulating the look and feel of the PC version of the app and adding to it improvements necessary on a mobile device, such as easy functions arranged in toolbars and responsive hand gestures for image handling, PowerPoint for Tablet isn't hard to learn. On top of its accessibility, the crisp, compact interface with its clean, beautiful icons looks better than any other presentation app we've seen so far on Android.

One-tap notes and comments: You can access notes and comments at any time, thanks to the buttons in the bottom-right corner of the screen, which open up a right-hand sidebar, offering an overview of all your notes and comments.

Handles graphics and videos with ease: We were surprised at how easy it is to embed videos, SmartArt, or animations into presentations. It all takes just a few taps.

Cons

File processing slows down the workflow: When opening or attempting to print certain files, you get a prompt that Microsoft needs to process these files through its secure servers. This process is necessary to ensure you get security functionality and the most up-to-date features, by being able to open PPT or XLS files as PPTX or XLSX, for example. While Microsoft guarantees none of your information gets stored on its servers, this file processing isn't always quick, especially when it comes to larger files, requiring a few seconds at least.

Limited printing options: The only printing option supported is Google Cloud Support.

Slower than other Office for Android apps: While on the whole, it runs great, PowerPoint for Tablet can take its time opening larger files.

Bottom Line

PowerPoint lives up to its promise, being the solid and feature-rich app we hoped it would be. If you want to create compelling presentations on your tablet for work or school, this app offers everything you need to get the job done, provided that you have an Office 365 subscription.
