The CW's live-action reboot of Cartoon Network's animated series Powerpuff Girls is set to be reworked.

The show – officially titled Powerpuff – will still see Descendants' Dove Cameron, Yana Perrault and Agents of SHIELD star Chloe Bennet bring pint-sized, colour-coded superheroes Bubbles, Buttercup and Blossom to life.

Scrubs' Donald Faison, who will play the girls' "creator" Professor Utonium, and executive producer Diablo Cody (Juno) also remain on board.

But according to Deadline, in its attempts to bag a straight-to-series order, the Warner Bros TV/Berlanti Productions project will undergo a rewrite by Heather Regnier, who has previously worked on shows such as Falling Skies and Sleepy Hollow.

Whatever tweaks are made though, it'll still follow a trio of twentysomethings who have been left disillusioned by the fact that they spent all of their childhoods crime-fighting.

"We've got a trio of terrific actresses at the centre of that," Warner Bros TV Group President Channing Dungey assured eager fans just last week.

"I'm not going to say that it hasn't been a challenge. Bringing a children's cartoon into live-action adulthood has been a really fine line to walk, but I think we've done a pretty great job walking it."
