A Prada x adidas collaboration is on the way, here's everything we know so far

Prada has confirmed it will collaborate with German sportwear giant adidas.

As yet the exact details of what this unexpected collaboration will entail are unclear, but a statement released by the Italian luxury-goods house on Thursday suggested it’s set to be an on-going partnership rather than a one-off product drop: “the path is an evolving and dynamic structure composed of key milestones," it said.

Prada took to Instagram to tease the news, posting an image of two adidas shoe boxes, one Originals, the other a mainline adidas box, poking out of a Prada carrier bag, suggesting the collaboration will feature some luxed-up adidas sneakers.

And the brand has since confirmed that the first iteration of the collaboration will be the release of two limited-edition Prada for adidas styles, which will launch for men and women globally in December 2019. The shoes will be made entirely by Prada in their factories in Italy, and will combine Prada's craftsmanship with adidas's technical fabrication know-how.

Prada has also confirmed that in early 2020 the second instalment of the partnership will drop, with the release of new Luna Rossa performance sailing footwear.

The Luna Rossa sailing team was established in 1997, heralding Prada’s participation in the America’s Cup (the oldest trophy in sport and the most prestigious international sailing competition) and is, according to the brand, “the perfect laboratory to test new materials and technology, and offers the ideal conditions to perfect the science of sailing.”

As yet there are no clues as to what the limited edition trainers will look like, but given adidas’s super successful prior collaborations with brands like Rick Owens, Raf Simons, Stella McCartney and Yeezy, they’re set to be fairly special.

“The aim of this partnership is to investigate the realms of heritage, technology and innovation,” said Prada in a statement. "Prada for adidas is a laboratory for ideas, a new vehicle for creativity."
