They are one of the most iconic film characters of recent years – and now they’re taking over our towns.

Or at least that’s the scene in Peacehaven, West Sussex – after a prankster transformed the town’s bins into Minions – painting them blue and yellow to look just like the Despicable Me characters.

The 10 decorated bins, dubbed ‘binions’ – have been spotted everywhere from outside shops to bus stops and park benches, but no one knows who is behind the prank.

‘We have no idea who is responsible or why they’ve done it, but it’s quite amusing’, local resident Daniel Moon said.

‘People have been going around trying to find all ten.’

‘I thought it might be something to promote an upcoming festival, as they have a minion appearing there, but Mayor Wayne Botting has denied it. It’s a complete mystery.’

Praising the prank, a spokesperson from Lewes District Council added: ‘These bins have certainly drawn attention and brought comments and smiles from people passing by.

'Anything that encourages people to use the litter bins provided is a good thing as we want to keep the district clean and tidy for all to enjoy.’

The loveable cartoon characters first appeared in the Despicable Me series – and recently appeared in their own film Minions.
