Pre-Christmas lane closures and traffic lights on A55 Britannia Bridge
Lane closures, traffic lights and diversions will be in place when surveys are carried out on the A55 Britannia Bridge next month. Overnight works are scheduled ahead of the planned installation of new cameras and telephones.
Engineers will be checking existing ducting and chambers on the bridge, which carries A55 traffic over the Menai Strait between Anglesey and Gwynedd. They need to establish if the ducts are suitable for the extra cabling needed for new equipment.
The inspections are taking place between Monday evening, December 9, and Thursday morning, December 12. Slip road closures are needed on two nights, requiring two-way traffic lights on the bridge between junction 9 and junction 8a. Each night the works will be from 7pm to 5am.

Traffic Wales said: “A survey of the existing ducting and chambers is required to confirm whether they are suitable to accommodate additional cabling that will be required to upgrade the emergency telephones that are obsolete and no longer supportable. In addition to the replacing the telephones, there are also proposals to install new cameras on the bridge to improve safety.
“This work will be done with lane closures, traffic lights and overnight slip road closures. To reduce disruption, the works will be completed at night on Monday to Thursday with no works taking place on either a Friday or Saturday night.” Join the North Wales Live Whatsapp community now
