Pregnant mum reveals family members think she is giving her baby a 'dog's name'

You can't please all the people, all of the time – and one pregnant mum knows that all too well.

A woman called Kathy has revealed that nobody likes the baby name she and her partner have chosen for their unborn son – 'Huxley'.

What's more, she said that people – including extended family – told them to their faces that it is a "dog's name".

She asked Netmums users whether they think they should stick to their original decision, or be swayed by the (hopefully) well-meaning opinion of others.

In a post titled 'Nobody likes the name we've chosen', Kathy explained her dilemma.

She wrote: "Nobody likes the baby name we've chosen – I know it doesn't matter what others think, but... we've fallen in love with the name Huxley but whenever I tell anyone they pull a face and say it's a dog's name.

"I'm trying to stick to what my partner and I like but it's so disheartening.

"Can you just ignore negative opinions or should I be listening to them?"

Fortunately for her, followers of the thread were supportive of the parents-to-be's decision to name their child what they choose.

"Call your child what you like. Huxley is the name of the villain from Elmo in Grouchland, when I hear the name, all I can think is crazy eyebrows lol. Hopefully your child will like it," one person commented.

Keep a straight face

Another shared: "I wouldn't worry about what others think!

"Our son is named Zeus, every body hated it at first, people were saying things like you're naming him after a god, my dog/horse is called Zeus etc etc.

"I ignored them, as we loved the name and as soon as everybody met him, they all said his name suited him!"

A third helpfully shared: "My advice is never ever reveal baby names before the baby is born and don't get into a baby name discussion, if they do mention names that aren't on your list.

"I know it's a bit late this time, but you know for next.

"People are generally less rude when baby is born."

Another lightheartedly revealed: "When I was pregnant I said that we liked old fashioned names and were going to call our son Percy as you didn't hear of many these days.

"When I could keep a straight face it was hilarious watching people trying to compose their faces."

And one supportively added: "As long as you and OH are happy that is all that matters.

"I like different, uncommon names, and he wont be one of 5 in the year with the same name!"

Kathy didn't reveal whether she and her partner would be sticking to their guns in the end, but we hope they're happy whatever choice they make – and don't do what this mum wants to do and change her son's name after a year...
