Last week, Serena Williams excitedly revealed that she is expecting her first baby with fiance Alexis Ohanian, posting a photo of her growing baby bump on Snapchat alongside the caption “20 weeks”.
Now the 35-year-old tennis champ has melted hearts everywhere by penning a touching open letter to her unborn baby, saying that the little one has taught her the “true meaning” of peace.
Marking both her partner’s birthday and returning to number one in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings, Serena shared another photo of her bump and poignantly wrote: “My Dearest Baby, you gave me the strength I didn’t know I had.
“You taught me the true meaning of serenity and peace. I can’t wait to meet you.
“I can’t wait for you to join the player’s box next year. But most importantly, I am so happy to share being number one in the world with you once again today. On [Alexis Ohanian’s] bday.
“From the world’s oldest number one to the world’s youngest number one.
“Your Mommy. [sic]”
Back in December, Serena revealed that she is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, with the tycoon proposing to Serena in the same Rome restaurant where they first met.
In a fitting tribute to her beau, Serena revealed the exciting news over on her Reddit account, posting a poem that read: “I came home. A little late. Someone had a bag packed for me. And a carriage waited.
“Destination: Rome. To escort me to my very own ‘charming.’ Back to where our stars first collided. And now it was full circle.
“At the same table we first met by chance. But by choice. Down on knee. He said 4 words. And I said yes.”
The pair have kept their relationship incredibly private after meeting eachother just over a year ago, with it thought that they first crossed paths at a luncheon.
The 35-year-old star has previously dated the likes of Drake and Grigor Dimitrov, and recently admitted that she wants children.
She explained: “I definitely want to have kids one day. That’s something I’ve always wanted since as long as I could remember.”
Earlier this year, Serena admitted that she is yet to make wedding plans, revealing hat she hadn’t “thought about it too much” – and considering we now know that she’s had a bun in the oven the entire time, we can’t blame her for being a little bit preoccupied!
Congratulations once again to Serena and Alexis – we can’t wait to meet their bundle of joy in Autumn.
