Premier Inn fire: Major incident declared as more than 50 firefighters tackle huge blaze at Bristol hotel

A major incident has been declared as firefighters tackle a huge fire at a Premier Inn hotel on the outskirts of Bristol.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service said more than 50 firefighters are at the Premier Inn on Catbrain Hill following reports of a fire in a laundry room on the third floor.

Police declared a major incident due to the level of resources required by emergency services to tackle the incident.

It said resources were already stretched following protest activities by Extinction Rebellion in the city centre.

Smoke was seen billowing into the sky from the nearby M5 and Cribbs Causeway shopping centre.

Emergency services said there were no reports of any serious injuries but that people were being treated at the scene.

The fire service is working with police, Bristol Water and the Environment Agency at the scene.

Fire crews have also urged residents in the local area to close doors and windows due to smoke from the incident.

Road closures are in place as the blaze continues.

Cribbs Causeway, the A4018, is closed in both directions between Clifton Rugby Club and Lysander Road.

Buses are also being diverted.

Premier Inn said in a statement: "We’re aware of the current situation at our Cribbs Causeway hotel and we’re grateful to the emergency services who are helping us".

The group asked anyone with queries about room bookings at the Cribbs Causeway branch to contact them for more information.
