Premier League new boys Southampton troll Leeds United with brutal social media post

Southampton have taken a fresh dig at Leeds United as they continue to bask in the glory of their promotion back to the Premier League. Six days have passed since the Saints defeated the Whites 1-0 in the Championship play-off final to clinch an immediate top flight return.

Adam Armstrong's first half striker proved decisive in the showpiece fixture widely regarded as the richest match in football. United are facing up to a second successive year in the second tier of English football - but Southampton have enjoyed rubbing the Whites' noses in it.

In a post on social media platform X on Saturday morning, the Premier League new boys posted a screenshot of a Spotify playlist titled ‘sounds like promotion’. Three of the tracks included included in the playlist could be taken as cheeky digs at United, notably 'I Predict A Riot' by rock band Kaiser Chiefs. Joy Division’s 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' and Endor’s 'Pump It Up' were also included as part of the post.

It is not the only time that the Whites have been mocked since their latest play-off defeat. Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire, previously of Sheffield United, could not resist aiming a sly dig at United after they lost at the national stadium.

Maguire posted a photo of Southampton supporters celebrating their promotion alongside the caption: "Hope everyone is having a fantastic Sunday." Sheffield-born Maguire is acutely aware of the long-standing rivalry between Leeds and the Red Devils.
