The priceless, 33-year-old Premier League trophy cannot be touched by anyone. The league's code is that it can only be touched by a member of the winning team.

Grimsby football fan, Andy Gilman was among the scores of people who attended Grimsby Town Hall today to see the trophy up close.

"My grandson would be all over this. He loves the Premier League. It is a lovely trophy and I am well impressed," said Andy.

Trophy ambassador, Ellis Danby-Smith said it will be packed up and flown to Qatar for a promotion in the Middle East next week.

It last visited the area when it was hosted by Grimsby Town FC to mark the league's 30 anniversary. It is usually seen with large amounts of champagne or footballers kissing or licking it.

The trophy is used in films or adverts and regularly tours schools and colleges to inspire young people. It weighs 25 kilos and the base is made from malachite with a solid silver body and 24 carat gold plate crown and insignia.

It was made by Aspreys who are by Royal appointment. Without the base it weighs 10 kilo and is often filled with champagne by the League winners. Last season it went down to the last game of the season with Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool all potential trophy winners.

Ellis said: "We have had quite a few people come along today . People can't believe it is the actual trophy. They are star struck and we are pleased it makes their day."

The trophies are on show in the Bremerhaven Room of the Town Hall until 4pm today. The Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor Steve Beasant was one of the first to have his photograph taken with the trophy.
