We’re very lucky in Essex to have well connected cities, breathtaking countryside views, and a tonne of beautiful beaches to line our shore. However, one of our prettiest beaches is not just highly rated by us, it has plenty of awards to prove it’s well worth visiting. Frinton-on-Sea has both the Blue Flag award, and Tripadvisor’s Travellers Choice Award, presented in 2024 - making it among the best in the world.

Well loved among visitors, Frinton is known for its peaceful, pristine sands, which back onto a grassy bank. Praised by Which? reviewers for being a seaside town, not a seaside resort, the beach is free from commercialism, favouring independent shops, and adding to its local charm.

Earlier this year, Frinton was awarded a Blue Flag Award, making it not just a pretty beach, but a safe one. Councillor Mark Stephenson, Leader of Tendring District Council, said the awards recognised the beauty and quality of Tendring’s beaches. He shared: “I’m delighted that our Essex Sunshine Coast has again been recognised for its beautiful beaches. We are proud of our coastline - it is a fabulous place for residents and visitors alike.

“Blue Flags and Seaside Awards show people that our beaches are some of the best in the country and, in line with Our Vision, help us to promote our heritage and environment, attracting visitors and encouraging them to stay longer. It is not easy to keep the Blue Flag status.” Blue Flag is an international award managed by Keep Britain Tidy on behalf of the Foundation for Environmental Education.

Tripadvisor also awarded Frinton-on-Sea a Travellers' Choice award this year, making it one of the best places to visit, according to the site. The award also counts other exotic beaches in its list, as far away as Brazil and Australia.

One reviewer, Maura M wrote on Tripadvisor hat the beach was “A beautiful, sandy beach at Frinton-on-sea with miles of almost empty beach. I visited on Saturday with friends and it felt very spacious. There's a nice, long walk by the colourful beach huts or, even better, walk on the wet sand. Parking is free and plentiful. A great place for a day out!”

Another reviewer, LJC added “Beautiful golden sands. Clean beach, clean water. High tide you have to come off the beach… good time to have a picnic. No shops on the seafront, so bring your own.”
