The pretty Essex eatery with delicious afternoon teas loved by Strictly Come Dancing stars

There is nothing quite like an afternoon tea with friends or family to make you feel sophisticated and warm inside. Essex has plenty of tea rooms, but this one is not just revered by locals - celebrities have also visited to enjoy some good food and spend time with friends.

Tea at The George in Colchester is set within the historical 500-year-old George Hotel. Stylish and elegant, the Tea room is adorned with paneling, mirrors, cherry blossom, and lavish flowers, showcasing Colchester’s historic charm and history.

The chefs have expertly handcrafted quirky fancies, delicate finger sandwiches, homemade buttery scones, and strawberry preserves to take diners on a unique and personal gastronomical experience. The venue, which opened in August 2021, has artisan teas as well as champagne, cocktails and gin on the menu.

Strictly star Katya jones enjoyed an afternoon tea visit to the George with her friend actress Sasha Latoya. The pair dined on sandwiches, cakes, tea and champagne from the venue's Christmas menu in November 2021.

Sharing an image of the day on Instagram, Katya said: “If my wrinkles are from laughing, I’m down with it. Please remember to have a laugh today! And actually every day.”
