Prince Harry climbs Sydney Harbour Bridge to kick off Invictus Games

The Duke of Sussex kicked off the Invictus Games by raising the flag on Sydney Harbour Bridge on Friday.

Prince Harry scaled the 1,000+ step structure with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

They were joined by Invictus Games athletes Luke Hill, Ruth Hunt, Heidi Joosten, and Michael Lyddiard and Gwen Cherne.

Pregnant Meghan didn’t join her husband for the climb, but will attend the opening ceremony of the Games with her husband on Saturday. It takes place between 20 and 27 October.

The pair made their first public debut as a couple at last year’s event in Toronto, two months before announcing their engagement in November.

The Invictus Games is an international adaptive multi-sport event, created by Prince Harry in 2014, in which wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel and their associated veterans take part in sports including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, and indoor rowing.

The first event of its kind was held in London in 2014.

Meghan and Harry are currently on a 16 day tour of Australia and New Zealand.
