Prince Harry and Meghan Markle fly economy to Nice for New Year mini break - but take up three whole rows

One must try and mix with the plebs from time to time.

And it’s been reported their seats were right by the loos! Ugh.

Sources claim that the pair, who became engaged on November 27, caught a 9.55am British Airways flight on New Year’s Eve from Heathrow to Nice but instead of styling it out in first class, opted for economy.

But they took up three rows at the back of the plane and Harry, 33, apparently wore a baseball cap pulled down low and slouched by the window in a bid to go incognito.

Fat chance of that!

It was also reported that Harry and Meghan, 36, boarded the plane first and were accompanied by three bodyguards before being met by armed French border police at Nice airport.

Other sources have told the Daily Mail that several members of France’s elite Service de la Protection – the police unit responsible for the protection of foreign dignitaries – have flown down from Paris to guard the couple during their stay.

Asked if Kensington Palace had requested them, they said: ‘No, it would have been offered and would have been non-negotiable.

‘After what happened to his mother in this country and the issue of terrorism, it would be insisted on even for a private trip such as this.’

It is believed that Harry and Meghan were staying with friends at a private residence.

Meanwhile Harry is not the first royal to ‘slum it’ while travelling. On December 21 The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh caught a commuter train to Kings Lynn, Norfolk, ahead of their Christmas break at Sandringham.

And in 2014, Prince William shunned first class on a flight from New York to Washington DC, where he had met President Obama at the White House.

Earlier the same year, he flew from Memphis to Dallas in ‘coach class’ as he returned from his friend Guy Pelly’s wedding.
