Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Knew the Royal Baby’s Sex & Name Prior to Giving Birth

When it came to the birth of their firstborn child, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry apparently wanted no surprises. In fact, according to a new book, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex even knew the child’s sex and had a name picked out prior to the baby’s birth.

Called Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, the biography features never-before-heard stories about the royal couple, including the preparations they made leading up to Archie’s arrival.

Per the book, written by royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, the duke and duchess knew they were expecting a boy (information that is never released to the public before a royal child is born). However, according to the biography, the Suits alum divulged the news to a few close friends during her baby shower. Hello! states that Markle "quietly shared that she was expecting a boy with a number of friends at the fete, such as Amal Clooney, who hadn't already been told.”

And since the duo knew they were expecting a baby boy, they made sure to be ready with a name. The biography also states that they had decided on Archie for their son during Markle’s final week of pregnancy.

It’s important to note that neither the duke nor the duchess had anything to do with the tell-all book. A spokesperson released a statement on behalf of Prince Harry and Markle which read, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to Finding Freedom. This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting.”

So, while we were all busy writing lists of possible royal baby names, Meghan and Harry were keeping an Archie-size secret.
