Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘have more chances of professional success separately', expert says
A royal expert has suggested that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have more chances of professional success if they continue to do more solo engagements.
Matt Wilkinson, The Sun’s Royal Editor, told The Royal Beat that whilst the Duke of Sussex looked like a “spare part” on some of his visits with Meghan, that when he was flying solo at Invictus Games events he looked like the Harry of old.
Mr Wilkinson’s comments were made in the context of a discussion about Harry’s solo visit to Vancouver where he was promoting the Invictus Games and engaging promotional visits such as meeting with young children.
Mr Wilkinson said that Harry was “natural” and “so nice” and “the Harry that we kind of miss in many ways”. To hammer home his point, Mr Wilkinson compared Harry’s demeanour when he was working on his own to that which people see when he does joint trips with Meghan.
He said: “Normally we see him looking a bit grumpy, going to Colombia, being a little bit of a spare part. I welcome this Harry. I like this Harry. There should be more coverage, more eyes on his Invictus Games and what he does with the youngsters and stuff like that.”
Whilst Mr Wilkinson said Harry appears to be more confident and happier when he does work related jobs without Meghan, he said the same also applied to Meghan who he believed also succeeded better when she didn’t have Harry along with her.
Describing what he called a “conscious business uncoupling” between the Duke and Duchess, he said: “I think he succeeds better in his working environment when it’s just him and I think Meghan succeeds when it’s just her.
“I think we’ve both seen them doing separate things…maybe a conscious business uncoupling, but that’s what it is. I think they have more chance of succeeding if they are doing their businesses separately and that’s what we’re seeing at the moment. I think when Harry turns up to some of the events with the Duchess of Sussex I think he looks like a spare part, he looks bored.”

Whilst Mr Wilkinson has weighed in on Harry and Meghan’s professional present and potential future success, actress and TV presenter Denise Welch has reaffirmed her desire to stand up for Meghan.
Talking on the ADHD Chatter podcast, she said she would continue to stand up for the Duchess – who she has never met – against people who criticise but have also never met the Duchess.
She told host Alex Partridge: “If you get me on television supporting Meghan Markle and someone comes on who was paid to lie in an interview to say the Meghan Markle documentary was absolutely dire when they’ve not even seen it then I’m going to kick off with that person.
“It doesn’t mean I’m a horrible person, it’s means that I’ve got a voice that I’m prepared to use to support someone that I don’t know, but that I feel gets a terrible terrible rap in this world, it’s Meghan Markle.
“And then of course you get the people who are anti-Meghan Markle who will portray me on social media to be ‘a bully’. It’s like well I’ve never bullied anyone in my entire life. If you mean by checking someone that I vehemently disagree with because they’re denigrating someone that they don’t know either.”
Harry and Meghan's representatives have been approached for comment.
