  • President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Sunday to express that the U.S. government would not foot the bill to cover the costs of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's private security while residing in the United States.

  • The Duke and Duchess of Sussex quickly responded to the president's false claim, debunking the rumor that they would look to the government to fund their security.

  • "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the U.S. government for security resources. Privately funded security arrangements have been made," said a Sussex representative.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's recent relocation to California got the attention of President Donald Trump over the weekend.

On Sunday, the president of the United States took to Twitter (his usual) to comment on the Sussexes' move to Los Angeles. In the tweet, Trump assumed that the royal couple's new American status meant they would be looking to the U.S. government to foot the bill for the pair's private security needs.

"I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada," wrote Trump. "Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!"

Harry and Meghan quickly debunked the claim, however. "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the U.S. government for security resources. Privately funded security arrangements have been made," explained a Sussex representative.

The duke and duchess reportedly relocated to Meghan's hometown of Los Angeles from Vancouver Island in recent weeks. The couple and their young son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, are said to be residing in a secluded compound and heeding government advice amid the ongoing health crisis.
