Royal fans were left gobsmacked when they thought they'd spotted Prince Harry in Peckham, South London, on his 40th birthday. The Duke of Sussex, who turned 40 on Sunday (September 15), hasn't been back to Blighty that often since moving to Montecito, California with wife Meghan Markle - but that didn't stop Harry fanatics celebrating his birthday from afar on social media.

However, Londoners got a shock when they thought they saw the prince enjoying a pint at a pub in the capital over the weekend. But it wasn't actually Harry - it was a wax figure.

Madame Tussaud's had lent the eerily realistic waxwork to the Duke of Sussex pub in Peckham in honour of its namesake's birthday, where it was displayed alongside a wax model of Meghan.

The story was shared on Virgin Media News' X (previously known as Twitter) account, in a post which read: "In London, The #DukeofSussex pub in Peckham marked #PrinceHarry's 40th birthday with a special celebration. The pub hosted a wax figure of Harry, on loan from Madame Tussauds London, alongside a figure of his wife, #MeghanMarkle. #RoyalFamily."

Social media users were quick to react to the news, with many extending birthday wishes to Harry. One user commented: "Sounds like fun. Happy birthday Harry," while another added: "Love it! ! ! ! I would so visit just for this," reported Aberdeen Live.

Royal fans showed their love as one remarked: "Happy Birthday to our one and only Prince Henry [Harry's birth name]. The Duke of Sussex." Another fan said: "Wow had I been to London this weekend was going to go there and have a pint."

Some, however, weren't so impressed with the royals' wax figures, with one person saying: "No one else wanted it so what the heck....." Another comment said: "Did they pull the figures out of the dumpster behind Tussauds? No one is interested in them anymore."

While it may not have been the real deal this time, the Duke of Sussex is known to have many favourite haunts in the capital. Prince Harry fans have a much better chance of spotting him in-the-flesh at the Hollywood Arms, Chelsea, a pub the Prince apparently likes so much he would frequently enter via a secret entrance.
