Prince Louis's christening: Kensington Palace names the date

Prince Louis will be christened by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby on Monday 9 July, Kensington Palace has announced.

The ceremony will take place at the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace in London, where Louis's older brother George was also baptised.

Their sister Charlotte was christened at the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham.

Louis will be dressed in the same frilly cream gown used for George and Charlotte - a replica of an intricate lace and satin dress made for Queen Victoria's eldest child, also called Victoria, in 1841.

It will be a private affair, lasting about half an hour.

Louis, the Queen's great-grandson, is fifth in line to the throne.

Now eight weeks old, he was born in London on 23 April, weighing 8lb 7oz.

The palace said: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to announce that the christening of Prince Louis will take place on Monday 9 July at The Chapel Royal, St James's Palace, London.

"Prince Louis will be christened by The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby."

The christening will be another major family event for the royals, less than two months after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex got married at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

Harry and Meghan are likely to attend the ceremony, along with the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and Kate's family, the Middletons.
