Prince Philip To Miss Church With Infection

The Duke of Edinburgh is to miss a church service with other members of the Royal family as he remains in hospital for a fifth day.

Prince Philip, 91, has been in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary since Wednesday receiving treatment for a bladder infection.

He had been due to attend the service at Crathie Kirk, near Balmoral, but doctors told the Duke to rest and he has so far not received any visits from other members of the Royal family.

An RAF search and rescue helicopter was dispatched to fly Prince Philip to hospital on Wednesday, but poor visibility and heavy rain meant the crew were unable to reach him.

The Duke made the 50-mile journey from Balmoral to the city hospital by ambulance instead.

He and the Queen travelled to Balmoral for their annual summer break after attending a number of Olympic events.

His latest health scare comes less than three months after he spent five nights in hospital with another bladder infection following the Diamond Jubilee Pageant on the River Thames in London.

He was forced to miss some of the key celebrations for the Queen's 60-year reign after he was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital.

Prince Philip also had a successful procedure to clear a blocked coronary artery in December and was in hospital for four nights over Christmas.

Doctors have not said when the Duke will be discharged. Officials said at the time he was admitted he would be in the NHS hospital for a few days.
