Prince William revealed a new look during his visit to Southport with the Princess of Wales. Kate Middleton and Prince William were visiting to thank emergency responders who attended the stabbing that killed three schoolgirls and injured ten others and meet the bereaved families who were affected by the attack.

The couple privately met the families of Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, all fatally stabbed during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on July 29 in Southport, and the children’s dance teacher. After spending around 90 minutes with the families they walked the short distance to Southport Community Centre where they joined emergency responders involved in the attack to hear about their experiences and meet health practitioners supporting the “blue light” community in Southport.

The prince and princess spent half an hour with each of the family groups. At the time of the stabbings the prince and princess issued a statement on social media saying: “As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through.”

Kate wore a long brown coat and a burgundy blouse with her hair down and curled. William wore a suit of similar colours, but a notable difference to his appearance was his new beard.

Chorus Communication’s Jenny Holden told the Express that the prince's decision to grow a beard was a signal of something more than just not shaving. She told the newspaper: "Beards have experienced a resurgence in men's fashion for more than five years now, evolving from a trend into a staple of modern style.

"From the rugged charm of a well-groomed stubble to the more defined and sophisticated beard seen on footballers and actors, this facial hair renaissance has redefined masculinity."
