Prince William marked his final shift with East Anglian Air Ambulance by flying a critically injured woman to hospital.

The woman had been on foot on the B1135 Wymondham Road at Hethel at 10.20pm yesterday (Thursday) evening when she was hit by a marked police van.

The officers had been responding to a 999 call concerning the safety of the same woman, in her fifties, who had been reported missing.

She was treated for head and leg injuries at the scene before Prince William transported her to nearby Addenbrooke’s Hospital. She remains in a critical condition in hospital.

An East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) spokesman confirmed the news to the Eastern Daily Press, saying: “The EAAA crew, which last night included William, attended an incident south of Norwich which involved a road traffic collision-related injury, and a patient was treated at scene for severe head injuries then treated at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.”

Prince William returned the air ambulance to its Cambridge base at around 1.30am this morning, and will now be concentrating on royal duties full time.

He said in a statement that he hoped “to continue to champion” our emergency services after leaving the profession.
