Prince William joins Rio Ferdinand and Liam Payne in contention for dad of the year award

The Duke of Cambridge, Simon Cowell and Liam Payne are among those shortlisted for the celebrity dad of the year award.

Two of those shortlisted have had to overcome tragedy in recent years, with former footballer Rio Ferdinand and television presenter Simon Thomas also making the list.

The former England international's wife Rebecca died of breast cancer in 2015 and Thomas' wife Gemma died in November last year, after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.

The winner of the Clas Ohlson prize will be announced in June.
